China is one of its largest markets outside of the United States and is of strategic position in Hilton’s global growth. Hilton already has 190+ hotels in China and has 450+ in pipeline, aiming to reach 1,000 hotels by 2025. To grasp the growth momentum along with the booming middle class and consumer premiumization trend in China, Hilton will be expanding the presence of the Hilton Garden Inn (HGI) brand within the China market.
What will I be doing?
As a Director, Development Hiton Garden Inn, Greater China & Mongolia, you would be responsible for support the overall growth strategy in the region in its efforts to originate leads for new hotel projects, evaluate opportunities that fit with the strategy and objectives of the business, negotiate agreements, specifically for the HGI brand. While working with closely with key stakeholders across the business, the role holder will play a key role in closing deals across the region in continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:
- Grow relationships with existing and new key owners, important players in the Hotel and Real Estate Industry (consultants, asset managers, hotel operators, architects, interior designers, counsels, investors, bankers and real estate brokers, amongst others) and local decision-making authorities in order to generate leads which conform to agreed strategies and standards in order to identify development opportunities for growth.
- Work with internal and external advisors to execute deals in line with agreed priorities, Hilton standards and in conformity with corporate approvals. Negotiations should be conducted with the objective of securing integrative gains.
- Formulate and deploy a diverse network of contacts and contribute to building our capability in assembling and evaluating quality market intelligence in all of its forms to identify opportunities and aid decision making on whether opportunities should be pursued.
- Reviewing markets to identify previously unknown opportunities, researching the activity of real estate developers with whom we currently have no point of relationship, or researching the activity of our competitors (whilst adhering to Corporate Policy) to identify future opportunities that we may legitimately pursue.
- Ensure that the deal is seen right through to the finishing line by seeing the hotel successfully open and trading.
- Actively participate in industry conferences.
- Work with all required internal stakeholders to ensure that all internal deal procedures and protocols are adhered to and all legislative requirements are met, partnering with the Legal team where necessary, thus ensuring that the reputation of Hilton is protected and we operate legally and ethically at all times.
- Create required documentation and present deals to VP HGI Development GCM and Hilton Investment Committee for approval.
- Manage, coordinate, and in some aspects provide, Hilton’s post-signing development and review services (design, governing documents, operations, marketing, and sales). Provide expertise to internal teams carrying out these services.
- Ensure compliance with brand standards of HGI is met and achieve the strategic positioning of the property.
- Perform admiration duties such as:
- Management and retention of project documentation;
- Maintain accurate and up to date project information in the O2O database;
- Coordinate effectively with the Feasibility & Investment Analysis Team;
- Draft concise, accurate and balanced Development Authorities;
- Ensure a crisp and concise handover of projects to Technical Services and Operations;
- Work effectively with Finance and Compliance to complete due diligence in line with policy and best practice.
- Assist with evaluating the industry landscape and creation of standards to ensure Hilton remains an industry leader offering a world-class HGI product. Contribute ideas and suggestions across all aspects of the business including design, operations, legal, technology, etc.
To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess the following minimum qualifications and experience:
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal departments and foster collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Excellent presentation, public speaking and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent written communication skills. Candidate must be able to communicate effectively within a global corporate structure, deliver presentations to various internal and external audiences, and demonstrate a track record of working across a range of cultures and languages.
- Ability to effectively communicate and negotiate with those involved in developing hotels (high net worth individuals, legal professionals and all levels of corporate and real estate executives). Ability to stay calm and effective under pressure.
- Ability to evaluate and identify opportunities from a strategic perspective, including ability to develop, prioritize and implement plans to meet this position’s core goals. Strong analytical, quantitative and data management skills are essential. Ability to interpret and analyze financial statements.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work. Absolute discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information. Highly motivated self-starter. Ability to work independently but also effectively in a team.
- Exceptional organizational skills; ability to manage several projects at once, even while away from the office. Ability to take direction with minimal explanation and to understand concepts quickly.
- Minimum Education: Bachelors Degree
- Minimum Years of Experience: 6+ years
- Minimum Years of Specialized Experience: Four (4) years of hospitality management
- Management Experience (type): Managerial
- Minimum Years of Management Experience: 3+ years
- Additional Requirements (i.e. % of travel time, etc.):
- Ability to travel as required (approximately 50% of time)
- Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
