Position Summary:

Hilton’s tax environment is complex and challenging with a global footprint in over 100 countries, with the UK taking centre stage for its international operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the Group’s UK corporate tax affairs, ensuring that the statutory accounts tax reporting and all UK tax filings are completed to strict deadlines, with two other team members providing assistance. With the UK being used for the Group’s international operations, a significant amount of time will be spent on forecasting and supporting the US tax accounting team.

The position will have visibility at all levels both within the global tax function and outside the Department. It is essential that the person is both an effective leader and communicator, can easily adapt to working as part of a larger team across functions, to include finding workable solutions, and is able to explain UK tax concepts to audiences which don’t necessary have such a background.

What will I be doing?

Identify and implement technology solutions to achieve efficiencies and minimise risk in the areas of corporate taxes, capital allowances claims, tax reporting, and employment taxes. This will include taking the lead on the roll out of HMRC’s Make Tax Digital initiative, and generally streamline outdated processes that are resource intensive.

 

Completion of the Group’s UK corporation tax compliance obligations, maximising all available reliefs. This will include the supervision of two direct reports.

 

UK statutory accounts tax reporting and management of the tax audit process.

 

Preparation of UK tax forecasts both for payment purposes and in support of the global reporting requirements. The latter will include the recurring maintenance and provision of UK forecasts for short term and long term internal global cash tax reporting and US GAAP ETR forecasting.

 

Ownership of the UK tax provision work for the US GAAP Tax Accounting Team. The very tight deadlines will require being on call out to deal with queries and may require some weekend working at year-end.

 

Calculation, roll forwards, and maintenance of book/tax differences for the purpose of US GAAP.

Mid-year production of all UK true up tax work schedules & the quarterly UK tax reconciliations.

Assist with valuation allowance analyses.

 

Ad hoc planning and modelling connected with global tax planning strategies and commercial transactions.

 

Provide advice and support to the business on general UK and overseas tax matters, to include employment tax issues.

 

Build a strong working relationship with HMRC and generally manage tax risk.

 

Supportive Functions

 

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of other supportive functions based on the requirements of the Group.

The Group’s global tax accounting and U.S. tax compliance functions are located in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. The UK shared services centre is based in Glasgow. Thus, some infrequent travel may be required.

Organizational Relationships

 

The successful candidate will take ownership of key relationships between Group Tax and various other business functions, as well as with external tax advisers to deliver a work product on time.

 

Positions directly reporting to this position: UK Tax Manager & Senior Tax Manager.

Required Qualifications:

 

• Significant corporate tax experience working with multinational companies either gained in industry or a national public practice.

• Have an excellent understanding of IFRS GAAP, specifically in the area of tax reporting. Having experience and knowledge of US GAAP tax reporting would be helpful but not essential. Support will be provided in this area.

• Holds a degree from an accredited university and is either FCA/FCCA/CTA qualified or equivalent qualification.

• Excellent leadership and people skills, including motivating direct reports.

• Proven track record of implementing change and efficiencies.

• PeopleSoft and Hyperion experience would be useful but not essential.

• Fluent in Microsoft Office products and tax software packages.
